Prof. Paul Waako
Vice Chancellor, Busitema University
Prof. Paul Waako is the current Vice-Chancellor of Busitema University. Previously, he was the founding Dean of the University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, where he led curriculum development, resource mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and overall faculty administration. Under his leadership, the faculty grew to 56 staff members, six accredited programs, 500 students, and 19 outreach training sites, while attracting international funding.
Before this, he chaired the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at Makerere University for nine years, managing academic, administrative, and financial operations, as well as leading research and outreach efforts, including the Medicines Information Centre funded by the Swedish government.
Prof. Waako has served on national and international expert committees and has been widely published in areas like traditional medicine, drug development, and medicine supply systems. He has consulted for USAID-supported programs, worked as a visiting professor and external examiner, and authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. He is a Senior Research Fellow at Queen Mary University London and a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences. His strengths include strategic planning, resource mobilization, communication, and leadership across academic and research domains.
