The African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) is proud to announce that Prof. Tiisekwa, Director of the AICAD Tanzania Country Office, has been awarded the prestigious “Individual of the Year” at the 2024/25 SADC Quality Awards. This remarkable recognition honors his outstanding commitment to promoting quality advancement and standards across the region.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat unveiled the results of this year’s competition, which saw participation from 30 entries across five award categories. Among these, only three individuals were nominated, making Prof. Tiisekwa’s win not only significant but highly competitive. The entries came from four Member States—Eswatini, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe—highlighting the regional scope of the awards.
The SADC Quality Awards, established in 2009 by the Committee of Ministers of Trade, aim to encourage both public and private sector organizations, as well as individuals, to apply and adhere to international standards in their operations. The awards are intended to foster a culture of quality across sectors in the region, thereby supporting economic development and regional integration.
Prof. Tiisekwa’s recognition under Category 5: Individual of the Year is a testament to his exemplary leadership, advocacy for quality systems, and alignment with both regional and international best practices. Under his direction, the AICAD Tanzania Office has continued to demonstrate strong commitment to sustainable capacity development through quality-driven programs and partnerships.
The rigorous adjudication process was conducted remotely, with judges from different countries accessing and evaluating entries via a centralized digital repository. After initial scoring and discussions held on 26th February 2025, and a final adjudication meeting on 6th March 2025, Prof. Tiisekwa emerged as the leading individual contributor to quality advancement within the SADC region.
AICAD celebrates this achievement and applauds Prof. Tiisekwa for bringing honor not only to the Institute but also to Tanzania as a Member State committed to excellence. His award underscores the critical role of individual leadership in fostering regional development through standards and quality assurance.
